With consistently good results, Tamara Kostic knows how to impress so far this season. In her seventh appearance this week in the course of an international U18 youth tournament this year, she has a quarter-final at an ITF J500 event, two quarter-finals at J300 events and a semi-final at a J200 tournament – and now also a first semi-final at a J300 event. The 17-year-old finished in the last four for the second time in 2023 at the clay court event in Beaulieu-sur-Mer on France’s Mediterranean coast.
Kostic has already had three victories in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The Viennese (ITF 61) defeated the Italian Greta Greco Iucchina (ITF 97) 3: 6, 6: 4, 7: 5, eliminated the eighth-placed Slovakian Nikola Daubnerova (ITF 59) in the round of 16 with 6: 3, 4: 6, 6:3 and then in the quarterfinals on Thursday also the French qualifier Lucie Pawlak (ITF 902) with 6:2, 6:2. This might allow her to return to the top 50 in the youth world rankings and even slightly improve her career high from exactly 50th place, in the unofficial live ranking she is currently 48th.
On Friday, Kostic’s second match following 11:00 a.m. is regarding entering the final once morest her Italian doubles partner Francesca Pace (ITF 90), with whom she was eliminated in the first round. The only duel between the two so far took place last week in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and ended in round one with a 6:3, 4:6, 6:1 for the red-white-red youngster.
