Alexander Zverev underwent surgery for torn ligaments in his right ankle in Munich. The world No. 3 was injured once morest Rafael Nadal last week in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros.
The German hopes to be fit for the US Open which starts on August 29. “We all have our own journey in life. It’s part of mine“, Zverev wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself from a hospital bed.
“Next week I will reach a career high of world No. 2, but I had to undergo surgery. After further examination in Germany, we received confirmation that the 3 lateral ligaments of my right ankle were torn“, he explained.
“Stronger Than Ever”
With his 5 Masters trophies and 2 ATP finals, Zverev is still waiting for a 1st Grand Slam title. Roland-Garros last week was his 5th major semi-final. He lost the 2020 US Open final to Dominic Thiem, following leading 2 sets to nothing. “My rehabilitation starts now and I will do everything to come back stronger than ever!”he added.
