Roland-Garros finalist Casper Ruud will take part in the next Laver Cup as part of the European team, at the end of September in Vancouver.

Casper Ruud will compete in his third Laver Cup, in just over three months in Vancouver. In 2021 in Boston, when he was world No. 10, the Norwegian had won his only match of the competition, against the American Reilly Opelka, thus bringing a point to the European team (in Laver Cup, victories in Friday matches earn one point, Saturday matches two points and Sunday matches three points). Ditto in 2022 in London against Jack Sock, when he was then world No. 2. The Roland-Garros finalist formalized his participation this Friday and will therefore be in Canada from September 22 to 24, thus joining the European team Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune and Andrey Rublev, already announced for several weeks. “It has been an honor to compete for the European team for the past two years, to play in the same team with an incredible group of champions and with Bjorn Borg as captain”, rejoiced the one who attended last Sunday the 23rd coronation of Novak Djokovic in Grand Slam.

A rather disappointing first half of the season for Ruud… before Paris

“Casper is an exceptionally talented and dedicated young athlete heading to the top of the sport,” said future captain Bjorn Borg. I have no doubt he will break through to win a major soon. He has proven himself to be such an asset to Team Europe as a player and a teammate. It’s a privilege to have him back in the blue team. Casper Ruud had a rather disappointing first half of the season before this Parisian final, notably losing in the second round at the Australian Open, in the round of 16 at Indian Wells and Miami and from the outset in Rome. However, winner of the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril, he admitted that his tour of South America with Rafael Nadal this winter had disrupted his preparation. But he now seems to be on the right track and still occupies 4th place in the world this week. In the World team, coached by John McEnroe, four players have already announced that they will be in Vancouver: Taylor Fritz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios et Frances Tiafoe. Two places therefore remain to be taken within the two teams.
