Marc-Andrea Hüsler’s triumph at the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem in the USA continues.
The man from Zurich prevailed against the British Jack Draper (20, ATP 55) 6: 4, 6: 4 and confidently qualified for the semifinals, in which he met the Serb Laslo Djere (ATP 89).
After being on the pitch for around two and a half hours against Ilja Ivashka from Belarus in the previous round, Hüsler only needs a good half as long to win in the first direct encounter against Draper. After 81 minutes, the 26-year-old, who has five wins in a row in Winston-Salem including qualifying, used his third match point.
It is already certain that Hüsler will advance at least from position 102 to 85 in the world rankings and achieve his best career ranking so far. If the Swiss number 1 won the hard court tournament in the state of North Carolina, they would even advance to the 60th position.
Hüsler has caught a heavy chunk for the US Open, which begins on Monday in New York. In round 1, the left-hander meets number 19 seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov (23, ATP 21), also a left-hander. (SDA/che)
