The Lower Austrian, who won in New York in 2020, received one of the wildcards for the main competition on Wednesday. Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka was also given one of the special permits for players outside the required position in the world rankings for the main draw or qualification.
Former US Open champions Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu also received wildcards for the hard court tournament starting on August 26.
