Due to heavy rains expected in Andalusia, the kick-off of the Billie Jean King Cup held in Malaga will not take place this Wednesday. The match between Spain and Poland has been postponed until Friday.

Supposed to start this Wednesday in Malaga, the Billie Jean King Cup has fallen behind schedule. Unfortunately due to very heavy rainsand dangerous, expected in Andalusia, the organizers took the decision to postpone the opening match between host country Spain and Poland for two days. This episode comes after the deadly floods two weeks ago in the Valencia region. This rainfall caused the death of 223 people but this toll is not definitive, especially since the Almeria region was also affected.

Faced with the danger of moving spectators in perilous conditions, the Billie Jean King Cup will theoretically begin this Thursday with the match between Japan and Romania. The second meeting will be the scene of a standoff between Slovakia and the United States. The Spaniards will therefore wait until Friday before seeing their selection play their round of 16 against Poland of world No. 1, Iga Swiatek. Paula Badosa and her partners must win to earn the right to challenge the Czech Republic in the quarter-final. The new format of the competition introduced a system of elimination matches in place of the group stage.
