After the singles successes of Dominic Thiem and Sebastian Ofner on Saturday, Alexander Erler/Lucas Miedler followed up in the doubles on Sunday and beat Connor Gannon/David O’Hare 6:1,7:6(5).
After completing their mandatory task, Austria returns to World Group I and has the chance to secure a place in the 2025 qualifying round in September. According to the association, the draw will not take place until mid-March at the earliest.
Like Thiem and Ofner before them, Erler (ATP doubles 37th) and Miedler (39th) were big favorites on the relatively slow hard court. The 21-year-old Gannon was considered a completely unknown quantity, the 34-year-old O’Hare played his last doubles recorded by the ATP in 2022.
The first set was over following 23 minutes thanks to three breaks, in the second the ÖTV duo experienced much more resistance.
