Currently ninth and tenth in the Race, Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud will play the round of 16 in Tokyo and continue to collect points for the Masters. Frances Tiafoe, however, was eliminated.

In a little less than a month the Turin Masters will take place, and we currently know four of the eight qualifiers: Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner. The next tournaments will allow the contenders for the Masters Tournament to collect valuable points, starting with the players who are competing in the only ATP 500 this week, in Tokyo. Currently ninth and tenth in the Race, a few dozen points behind Holger Rune, eighth and who has been going through a very difficult period since July, Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud have all qualified for the round of 16 in Japan. The American eliminated another Masters contender, Cameron Norrie (17th in the Race) with a score of 6-4, 6-3. He served 13 aces and only lost his serve once, at 2-2 in the first set, before winning four games in a row, then breaking at 1-0 in the second. Fritz, seeded No. 1, will face the Japanese Mochizuki for a place in the quarters, and still 45 additional points to glean.

Bad operation for Khachanov and Tiafoe

Casper Ruud, for his part, eliminated Yosuke Watanuki with a score of 7-6, 6-3 in 1h46, serving eight aces and never losing his faceoff, despite three opportunities for the Japanese. Next opponent for the No. 2 seed: the American Giron. Thirteenth in the Race, Alex De Minaur also continues his progress, thanks to his victory in 3h03 of play over Jack Draper: 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 in a match with seven breaks. The Briton, however, served for the match at 5-4 in the last set. Karen Khachanov, fourteenth in the Race, had a bad operation by losing 6-4 6-2 once morest Alexei Popyrin, the fault in particular of the 11 aces of the Australian, very solid on his serve with only one break conceded. Bad operation also for Frances Tiafoe (fifteenth in the Race), beaten 6-3, 7-6 by Aslan Karatsev. Like Popyrin, the Russian was solid on his serve, with 10 aces and a break conceded.
