Jannik Sinner made short work of Yoshihito Nishioka to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP tournament in Beijing. Holger Rune, for his part, confirmed his current difficulties by losing to Grigor Dimitrov.

Jannik Sinner was clearly in a hurry. Seeded number 6 at the ATP tournament in Beijing, the Italian only spent a little over an hour on court to overcome Yoshihito Nishioka. The Japanese put on a strong face by erasing the break conceded from the start in the second game. But, following holding his serve in a shutout game, the Japanese was completely overwhelmed by the world number 7 and no longer recorded a single game. Jannik Sinner raised his voice to take his opponent’s service a second time but had to fight to add a little more to the score. Indeed, it was on the fourth break point that the Italian was able to make it happen to lead five games to two. In pride, Yoshihito Nishioka dismissed three first set points but gave in on the fourth. From the start of the second set, Jannik Sinner kept his opponent’s head underwater by taking his serve from the start. The Japanese tried to react and obtained a break point in the process, without success. From there, the Italian did not give up a single point on his serve and converted two of his three break points. The result was a second one-sided set and a quick victory for Jannik Sinner (6-2, 6-0 in 1h08′).

Rune does not confirm

For a place in the last four, the Italian will face Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian took advantage of Holger Rune’s chronic difficulties to win in two rounds. While the Dane had signed once morest Félix Auger-Aliassime his first victory on the ATP circuit since that acquired during the round of 16 at Wimbledon once morest… Grigor Dimitrov, the world number 4 stumbled once more. It must be said that his start to the match, with his first two service games conceded on five break points, did not help. If he then knew how to pull himself together to erase one of his two breaks behind, this reaction did not go any further. Indeed, following having ruled out a new break opportunity for Holger Rune, Grigor Dimitrov went to conclude the first round on the Dane’s serve. The second set did not experience the same scenario because both players were very solid on serve. There was not the slightest opportunity for a break during the first eleven games and everything indicated that a tiebreak was going to be necessary to decide between them. It was at this moment that Grigor Dimitrov raised his voice and made Holger Rune crack. Trailing 0-40 on his serve, the Dane resisted and dismissed the first two match points in favor of his opponent. The Bulgarian ended up having the last word (6-3, 7-5 in 1h33′) and reached the quarter-finals.
