Tennis at Wimbledon: Who is allowed into the Royal Box?

The Royal Box on Centre Court in Wimbledon is legendary: the grandstand has 74 seats and is located directly on Centre Court, offering the best view of the tennis matches. Entry is by invitation. Without an invitation, you have no chance of being admitted. Queen Camilla (76) was already a guest, as was Princess Beatrice (35) and Prince Albert of Monaco (66).

In addition to British and foreign royals, heads of government, well-known sports stars and Hollywood stars also like to sit on the comfortable green chairs. David Beckham (49) came with his mother, former football star Josep “Pep” Guardiola (53) brought her daughter Valentina with her. Also spotted: music icon Cliff Richard (83), Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman (86) and the British actresses Sienna Miller (42) and Keira Knightley (39). There is a strict dress code for the Royal Box: men must wear a suit and tie. Ladies are asked not to wear hats so as not to obscure their view.

Everyone eats strawberries with whipped cream

In general, anyone who has a ticket for the oldest tennis tournament in the world can count themselves lucky – and should definitely eat strawberries with whipped cream there. Wimbledon would be unimaginable without them: During the two weeks of the competition, around 30 tons of them are sold and eaten with whipped cream. Each bowl contains at least ten fruits, and a portion costs the equivalent of three euros – unchanged since 2010.
