Asunción, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) calls for companies interested in carrying out water and urban infrastructure tasks in San Lorenzo, in order to revitalize and protect a significant section of the San Lorenzo stream.
The tender, identified as “Call MOPC No. 99/2024” is already published on the Public Procurement portal with ID 454.015 and is directed to national construction firms.
The date for submitting offers is set for Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., at the single entry table of the MOPC central building. The total estimated amount of the investment is G. 40,487,173,963.
The project, which covers 850 meters from Mariscal Estigarribia Avenue to Dr. Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia Avenue, aims to improve the quality of the urban environment and recover green areas at specific points of the stream.
This intervention is part of the Urban Drainage Master Plan, promoted by the state portfolio to address the water infrastructure challenges in the country.
The need for this project arises from the critical environmental situation facing the San Lorenzo stream. The high population density in the area has led to the degradation of the channel due to the deposition of solid waste and sewage, as well as the invasion of its natural overflow strip by precarious settlements.
This situation not only affects environmental quality, but also increases the risks of flooding and erosion.
Main works to be executed
The intervention plan is comprehensive and multifaceted. It includes the construction of a reinforced concrete channel with a rectangular section that will extend along the 850 meters of the selected section.
This channel will have a depth of 4.40 meters and a base of 15.60 meters wide, with an additional working area that will bring the total width to 20 meters. The work also includes the initial deepening of the channel by 1.5 meters, which will be gradually reduced downstream.
In addition to channeling, the creation of quality public spaces is planned. A linear walkway will be built equipped with safety railings and self-sustaining public lighting powered by solar energy.
The creation of a new plaza and the improvement of an existing one are also planned, providing it with children’s games and equipment for outdoor exercises.
Environmental care
A notable aspect of this venture is its focus on environmental awareness. It is planned to display information on environmental care, classification and correct disposal of waste, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of preserving the stream and its environment.
With all these actions, the aim is not only to solve infrastructure problems, but also to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of San Lorenzo, department of Central.
The works are expected to generate employment opportunities, improve the aesthetic value of the area and provide safe and free recreation spaces for the community, the MOPC reported.
