Tencent earns 40.6% more at the end of its fiscal year

Chinese tech giant Tencent posted net attributable profit of 224,822 million yuan (32,017 million euros) in the whole of 2021, which is equivalent to an increase of 40.6% compared to the profits seen during the previous year, as reported by the company

Revenue between January and December amounted to 560,118 million yuan (79,766 million euros), 16.2% more, despite the fact that in the fourth quarter of 2021 the increase in Tencent’s turnover slowed down to 7.9% , up to 144,188 million yuan (20,534 million euros), which represents the weakest growth in the company’s quarterly income.

By business segments, in the year as a whole, the turnover of the video game and social network division grew by 10.3%, to 291,572 million yuan (41,523 million euros), while financial and business services grew by 34 .4%, up to 172,195 million yuan (24,522 million euros). The division posted a turnover of 88,666 million yuan (12,627 million euros), 7.8% more.

At the end of the year, the number of active monthly users of all the company’s platforms was 1,268.2 million, which represents an annual growth of 3.5%, although compared to the data for the third quarter the advance was 0.4%.

“2021 was a difficult year, in which we embraced changes and implemented certain measures that strengthened the company’s long-term sustainability, but at the cost of slowing down our revenue growth,” said Ma Huateng, Chairman and CEO of Tencent.
