A rescue operation at sea, in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais, was carried out Tuesday morning to rescue ten people aboard a boat in difficulty.
Ten castaways were rescued at sea in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais on Tuesday morning, indicates the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea in a press release.
The regional operational surveillance and rescue center Gris-Nez hired the assistance and rescue intervention tug Abeille Normandie to rescue the shipwrecked people, who were on board a boat in difficulty.
They were dropped off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer and then taken care of by the firefighters and the border police.
The maritime prefect also recalls the risks incurred by anyone attempting to cross the Channel while “this maritime sector is one of the busiest areas in the world”.
On Monday, a record number of attempts to cross the Channel was recorded with nearly 1,300 people who joined the English coast aboard 27 boats.
