Ten people were injured in a serious traffic accident on the Tauernautobahn (A10) on Saturday morning. Among them were five children. The accident happened near Krems in Carinthia. The A10 was closed in both directions until 1:45 p.m. When asked by APA, the police announced in the followingnoon that a rear-end collision in front of a construction site in the direction of Salzburg was the cause of the 30-kilometer traffic jam.
Three rescue helicopters were deployed to treat the ten injured. According to the police, two German, one Polish and one English car were involved in the accident. At around 2:00 p.m., Asfinag informed APA that the autobahn in the direction of Carinthia and the Katschberg tunnel were free once more. In the direction of Salzburg, traffic was diverted in one lane past the accident site in the followingnoon due to ongoing clean-up and surveying work. The traffic jam was therefore only slowly clearing.
Mario Nemetz from the Carinthian police told APA that the accident happened around noon. One of the three helicopters flew a second time to bring injured people to hospitals. It was initially unclear how serious the injuries sustained by the car occupants were.
