The tried and tested Steyr Climate Festival is starting its sixth season with a new team and new ideas. This was organized five times by Jürgen Hutsteiner and Barbara Reisz, and now the two are taking a break. The organization was taken over by the initiatives “da Huat brennt” and Klimafocused Steyr together with numerous friends. This networking meeting for climate protection and a future worth living will include ten environmental initiatives, more than 30 stands at the “Market of Opportunities” and lots of entertainment.
The name is also new: The “Climate Festival of the Future” will take place on Saturday, May 4th, from 1 p.m. at the Working World Museum in Wehrgraben. In case of bad weather it will be moved to the museum.
A “stage for the future”
“It’s a meeting for everyone who wants to get involved and who cares regarding the future,” says Gerlinde Winter, one of the organizers. “We give a stage to the people who work at the grassroots level of nature and climate protection in the region.” Visitors should have the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information and network regarding climate protection and future topics.
Hinterberge and defensive ditch
The stage is the CulturContainer on the museum forecourt. From here, the various initiatives from the entire region will present their projects and successes from 2 p.m. And there is an enormous number of people who are committed.
“For us it’s also regarding making it visible how many different areas these activists who are committed to the future come from,” says Roland Mayr.
And those who had shown enormous commitment in the past will also be honored and brought to the stage – those who once saved the Hintergebirge as well as the defensive ditch from destruction: “They were and are not troublemakers. They have with their courage and their foresight preserved the irretrievable for future generations and made a more livable future possible.”
With Christa Holub and Jörg Hofmarcher, two “veterans” will report on their initially seemingly hopeless battle.
But the current topics are not neglected either: the range extends from the livable Stodertal initiative to green belts instead of west clasps, climate alliance, cycling Sunday in Ennstal, because Huat burns, Pro Natur Steyrtal and climate focus to Garsten for Future, Ströme, cycling lobby Steyr, teachers for Future and Forum Schlosspark.
For the first time, politics has no place on the stage this time. Ultimately, it’s regarding the people at the grassroots who volunteer and use their courage to get politicians to act in the interests of the future, according to the organizers.
Entertainment for young and old
Although many things are threatening to change in terms of climate despite the efforts of many, the initiatives do not want to let the celebratory mood be taken away from them. “We want to celebrate with all those who are committed to intact nature,” says Winter. Because it’s easier to make plans together when celebrating. There is also entertainment: at 3 p.m. the children’s theater “Zatsch” starts for people aged three and over, at 5 p.m. there is an action by the ATSV Steyr paddlers on the Steyr, and from 6 p.m. there is “dancing along for everyone” at Lindy Hops Swing. announced, followed in the evening by a concert by the Steyr band “Goethe groovt” from 7 p.m. Visitors can also expect a climbing tower, childcare and lots of culinary delights.
