Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag has defended his policy of having the Portuguese star present, Cristiano Ronaldoon the bench.
Ronaldo, 37, has started only one of United’s five matches this season, during the disastrous 4-0 defeat at Brentford.
But then, Ronaldo participated in the matches from the bench, as the Red Devils won once morest Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester City.

“As we all know, Ronaldo did not have pre-season preparation and you can’t miss the pre-season,” Ten Hag said in comments published by the English newspaper “The Sun”.
“It’s the rule for everything, especially the way we play, we play a different kind of football than last year,” he added.
He continued: “The demands, cooperation, positioning, entry and exit from possession, and fitness all depend on the pre-season.”
And the Dutchman added in his statements: “I will be Ronaldo’s friend and sometimes I will be his mentor, it depends on the situation.”
Ronaldo did not participate in the preparatory season with him Manchester United Due to widespread speculation regarding his future at Old Trafford and his desire to leave, to participate in the Champions League.
