The directorate ordered four products from the Chinese shopping platform this spring in connection with checking several foreign online stores, according to E24.
The purpose was to carry out a random check of plastic interior products. It turned out that one of the products had plastic softener far above the limit value. The product was a mat in transparent, soft plastic that can be placed on top of the table top to protect the table from damage.
– The substance itself has very serious health effects. That is why it is regulated and must not be used in consumer products, says section leader Mathieu Veulemans to the newspaper.
The Norwegian Environment Agency has made Temu remove the product.
The substance goes by the name DEHP and is documented as harmful to health. EU regulations, which Norway also follows, state that products can contain a maximum of 0.1 per cent of the substance. The table protector contained 25 percent DEHP, according to E24.
The Norwegian Environment Agency will continue to test goods. After the summer, they will carry out random tests on toys.
Michael Falk, PR manager for Temu in the Nordics, writes in an email to E24 that Temu immediately removed the product following the inquiry from the Norwegian Environment Agency.
– We prioritize product quality and take several steps to ensure that our sellers meet regulatory standards. This includes requiring correct documentation, performing spot checks, continuously monitoring our platform and quickly dealing with feedback from both the public and regulatory authorities.
