Older people have to be checked or retrained every few years if they are only granted a temporary driver’s license – a debate that regularly flares up once more following accidents involving older road users.
In fact, according to the study, they belong – along with the very young – to the group of drivers that causes the most traffic accidents. Statistics Austria announced just a few weeks ago that 83 percent of car drivers over the age of 85 and 77 percent of those aged 80 to 84 who were involved in accidents in the past five years were also the cause .
