Cinephiles may have shed a tear in the past few days. The cinema in the Lago shopping center in Konstanz has been closed since Thursday, February 8th. A sign on the door and a note on the homepage provide brief information: “Dear guests, your safety comes first! Due to short-term repair work, we have to temporarily close our cinema.”

There will be no film screenings until Wednesday, February 14th. In response to SÜDKURIER’s inquiry, Peter Herrmann, manager of the Lago Shopping Center, explained the reason: “A drywall element fell down in the cinema – no one was hurt.”
In plain language: parts of the ceiling have collapsed. According to the manager, elements have come loose from the roof cladding. They were soaked from the rain. The repair work is already in full swing. “Such incidents are no longer to be expected in the future,” says the Lagos press office.

Cinema operations will probably start once more on Thursday
Hermann is optimistic that strips can flicker across the screen once more from Thursday, February 15th. “Because we have dedicated craftsmen at our side who are working at full speed despite the carnival holidays, cinema operations can resume in the middle of the week,” he says.
It’s not the first time that the ceiling in the shopping center has caused problems. It wasn’t until September 2023 that it dripped into the cinema foyer. The water was collected in buckets and plastic boxes. Cinemagoers had to walk around yellow displays that read “Caution: Danger of Slipping.”

The adjacent construction site on the roof, where a terrace with a rooftop restaurant is currently being built, was also affected at the time. Special drains had been created there so that the water might drain away in a targeted manner, explained Herrmann in September.
Incidentally, the leaky roof is not a result of the construction work on the roof terrace, but is normal signs of wear and tear. “The flat roof is 20 years old. Cracks can appear,” explained Herrmann back in the summer.
