Tempi: “Our children’s names will not become €15 tickets” – Relatives’ reactions to the concert in Kallimarmaro

Nikos Plakias, father of Chrysis and Thomais Plakias, the twin girls who lost their lives in the train accident, in a post on X his and other families of victims of the tragedy in Tempi “we are against everything that has to do with financial considerations”.

“The names of my own children will not become €15 tickets,” adds Mr. Plakias, asking the artists who will participate in the October 11 concert to cancel their presence “because legal procedures and security measures will follow.” As he notes “the club that organizes it is made up of 6 families”. Mr. Plakias, in fact, also republishes posts of other relatives of victims of the tragedy who also express their disagreement with the organization of the concert for a ticket.

The entire post by Nikos Plakias

I read that various artists will be attending the marble for a concert dedicated to the TEMPLE. Among the artists are @sokratismalamas @ thanasispapakonstantinou@foivosdelivorias and others. So far so good until I saw the entrance ticket for €15. Do you know where this money will go? Do you know that the club that organizes it is made up of 6 families? Did you request a club charter? Did you ask to see if it is legit? You know that all the other families we are opposed to anything that has to do with financial consideration.

I welcome your move and thank you for not forgetting us. I will only tell you to cancel your presence there because legal procedures and injunctions will follow. Whoever is in financial need should only use the name of his relative and not the number 57 and plural such as VICTIMS. The names of my own children will not become €15 tickets. Someday we will do this concert without financial consideration and with thousands of people.

Karystianou: It’s a pity that it is tarnished by people who have experienced the same pain

Maria Karystianou responded about the concert, stressing that “there is nothing illegal and nothing hidden in what we do. We are transparent and clear and we have shown how much we care about the success of our fight.” While addressing Nikos Plakias, she says characteristically: “We decided to do this concert and collect the money we need for the legal battles abroad in which, as is known, Mr. Plakias does not participate, as well as the families who follow the legal line which Mr. Plakias also wants it, but we didn’t do it just for that reason.

We did it because we wanted that day to all come out and sing for the children. That day we wanted our voice to reach all the way up. A day of love, sympathy and teamwork. It’s a shame that this is tarnished by some people who have experienced the same pain.”

Maria Karystianou stated in detail:

“I would like to take a public position on the matter created by Mr. Plakias for the concert that will be held for Tempi in Kallimarmaro, which is organized by the Association, together with some artists.

My position, even though journalists ask me to comment on Mr. Plakias, will not be about Mr. Plakias. Let him speak for himself. I will speak for the Association.

I have said many times that it was created by a small group of relatives, certainly twice the number mentioned by Mr. Plakias from very early on because he understood the difficulty of the struggle and thought that it is better that we are united. It does not represent all families. We have a very aggressive legal line that we strongly support and we have decided that we will spread it abroad.

We have made moves for it. We have contacted legal offices which Mr. Plakias ignores. We have had the talks and we know the financial figures required for this fight and that unfortunately we are not in the financial situation to be able to support it. However, we do not accept this to be a brake on the justification of the fight.

Therefore, we decided to do this concert and collect the money we need for the legal battles abroad in which Mr. Plakias is known not to participate, as well as the families who follow the legal line that Mr. Just kidding, but we didn’t do it just for the sake of it. We did it because we wanted that day to all come out and sing for the children.

That day we wanted our voice to reach all the way up. A day of love, sympathy and teamwork and collegiality. It’s a shame that this is tarnished by some people who have experienced the same pain.

There is nothing illegal and nothing hidden in what we do. We are transparent and clear and have demonstrated how much we care about our fight being a success.

I want to say a very big thank you to all the artists who embraced our effort from the beginning and to the artists who are waiting for the event to be organized which has been blocked by Ms. Mendoni. On that day, let’s focus on this, that we will all sing together for the children who left. And we will all sing together for the children who are next to us and for ourselves who desire a better society. Thank you for being by our side.”

The press release for the concert

TEMPI-Memorial concert
Friday 11 OCTOBER 2024
Kalimarmaro Panathenaic Stadium

On Friday October 11, at the Kallimarmaro Panathenaic Stadium, the association of relatives of the victims of the train accident in Tempi, organizes a big concert – a tribute to the souls of February 28, 2023. A night of remembrance with the wish and request to become one through music and solidarity, let us not forget and let us not be forgotten…

In the valley of Tempe, the voices of 57 people were silenced. An unspeakable tragedy that the mind tries to grasp, without end. A year and a half later, the relatives speak with the voice of the victims and unite through pain and absence, inviting us all to become the voice of the bereaved.

“If we humans became one in pain, one in the unimaginable silence that absence leaves… one in the numbness that follows the events, one in the responsibility that is still looking to find its place… The Law that unites our souls is that of Music. With kindness let us stand and with the wish that our union reaches the sky and all its stars. As long as we live and walk on the tracks of our own path, the memory of loved ones is a milestone for our every day…”

In this concert, great artists give their “present” through the reserve of their soul and love. All non-profit, with the sole aim of glorifying life and honoring those who were forcibly excluded from it.
