After the earliest 30 degree day in Austria’s history on Sunday, extremely mild southerly currents and foehn caused unusually high temperatures for the time of year on Monday. The values continued to reach ten to 15 degrees above those for a typical beginning of April. At 4 p.m. some weather stations were near the 30 degree mark, Geosphere Austria told the APA. In Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria, 29.9 degrees were measured.
In Weyer in Upper Austria it was initially 28.8 degrees shortly following noon, as was the weather station in Salzburg Freissal. In addition, it was already more than 25 degrees at around 170 of the Geosphere’s almost 280 weather stations. For comparison: In an average year, the 25 degree mark in Austria is reached for the first time in mid-April. The highest temperatures of the day are expected around 6 p.m. Due to global warming, very warm weather conditions are increasingly occurring early in the year.
