Faced with this scenario, the specialist of the Meteorological Prediction Subdirectorate of the SenamhiAndrea Sutizal, warned that this trend in Metropolitan Lima and other areas of the central coast of the Peru will continue at least until November 2022. In addition, he specified that there is a possibility that, even in the summer of 2023, there will be cooler conditions.
“We are already in a transition season, spring has already begun and it is usual for there to be greater sunshine; however, in the context of La Niña Costera, which has been affecting the weather conditions towards the part of our coast, such as the central coast, where Lima is located, the coverage conditions are still present, as well as the presence of winds from the south that are colder”, explained the expert in an interview with La República.
Sunshine in Lima and districts with warmer temperatures
During the first week of October, Metropolitan Lima registered the presence of sunshine around noon and 1:00 pm, especially in districts that are located far from the coast, such as Ate Vitarte, Cieneguilla, San Juan de Lurigancho, Chaclacayo, among others.
The engineer specified that the districts on the eastern side of the city tend to have slightly higher temperatures during the day; however, at dusk they tend to be colder compared to those in the west. “While it’s true that they get hotter during the day, they can get cooler at night,” she emphasized.
