In his statements, the defense attorney in the Thrasyvoulos Kontaxis case, argued that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office is practicing politics, while referring to his own principal, he said that he will appeal to the investigator asking for the disappearance of the guarantee as the 600,000 euros imposed on her is an amount she does not have. In case the judicial officer rejects it, the next step is an appeal to the Judicial Council.
Mr. Kontaxis also noted that a lawsuit has been filed against Mr. Velopoulos whom he accused of interfering with the work of justice due to his statements in Parliament about those involved in the 717 contract.
Specifically, in his statement, Mr. Kontaxis states:
“The Greek Justice in the case of Tempe, despite any problems, moved quickly, discreetly and efficiently. The same does not apply to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office which, in our opinion, is essentially practicing politics, (using the law, a position for which it will receive, soon, all the legal answers before every competent Authority, the Council of Europe included ).
It is precisely for these reasons that yesterday’s announcement -April 1, 2024- was issued by the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, which is a catapult against the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Therefore, most of those (parties, politicians, journalists, institutions, “sofa and Facebook revolutionaries”), citing the victims and the tragedy of their loss, attempt to exploit – each for their own benefit – the interest of public opinion , (part of which, unfortunately, “thirsts for blood”).
In this context, a gentleman named K. Velopoulos, journalist, member of parliament and party president, (speeches in Parliament about “the party that is about to begin”…), interfered in the work of the Greek Justice, spreading lies, which lead to arrests of accused persons, with an obvious risk of unrecognized confinement of the Justice, in violation of every concept of the presumption of innocence.
As a result, a lawsuit was filed against him for defamation of personality as well as a lawsuit for violation of the presumption of innocence by a public official. Anyone who leaks and distorts parts of the case file, who expects political or other kinds of benefits and unfairly interferes with the work of Justice and extorts judicial judgments will suffer similar lawsuits as well as crimes, immediately.
