From 10 p.m. on Friday August 11, the members of the Vega club were ready to welcome the public, along the path leading to the old stadium: six observation posts were available: four equipped with different types of telescopes and two equipped astronomical binoculars. Gradually, the public (regarding fifty curious people), sometimes very young, spread out around the instruments. Everyone was waiting for the appearance of the first stars; and it was therefore a discovery with the naked eye of the three beautiful summers (Vega, Deneb and Altair) in accordance with the indications provided by the sky maps offered by the club. The discovery continued but playing hide and seek with the clouds. Thanks to the animators’ green laser pointers, the summer constellations might be identified as well as those close to the pole star (circumpolar) visible all year round.
Starlink
Many were waiting for the passage of the Perseids: these shooting stars which come, every year, at this time, to make us look up in the direction of the constellation of Perseus, unfortunately the opacity of the sky only allowed the most attentive to ‘follow three or four of them before midnight, but unexpectedly, we were able to observe, in addition to the planes and satellites, the train of satellites (regarding thirty) including SpaceX’s Starlink sailing eastward.
Several observers were discouraged given the deterioration of the quality of the sky, however the most tenacious remained beyond midnight, and did not regret their stubbornness. Indeed, Saturn appeared in a cloudy gap and made it possible to discover its ring through the eyepiece of the 250 mm telescope. Playing with cloud mobility, the Andromeda galaxy and some deep sky objects (clusters, nebulae, galaxies, etc.) were briefly seen. The wait in vain was made concerning the lifting to the east of Jupiter but the goodwill stopped around one o’clock.
