For more than 50 years, the emergency number 142 has been available around the clock in serious crises. 25 years ago, telephone counseling received official emergency call status. The importance of the first point of contact in crisis situations is also reflected in the numbers: in 2022 alone, almost 181,000 consultations were carried out by telephone, e-mail or chat throughout Austria, and the trend is rising.
