Telenor delivered stable operating results for the second quarter

Operating income for Telenor ended at NOK 19.9 billion, of which NOK 16.3 billion came from service income. This is an increase of 4.5 per cent from the same period last year. The company delivered a free cash flow of NOK 2.2 billion in the second quarter.

Operating profit ended at NOK 4.36 billion, a decrease from NOK 4.37 billion in the same quarter last year.

Steady course

– Telenor stays on a steady course, and we continue to deliver on a strategy that works. We still have strong and profitable growth in the Nordics and good cost control, says CEO Sigve Brekke in Telenor.

A payment of a total of NOK 9.5 per share has been announced for the whole of 2024, of which NOK 5 was paid out during the second quarter. The next payment of NOK 4.5 will be paid to the shareholders at the end of October.

Telenor has significant foreign operations, but reports on operations in Norwegian kroner. In the report for the second quarter and first half of the year, the company writes that it had a loss on currency transactions of NOK 1.3 billion.

Dominating the market

In Norway, Telenor is by far the largest telephone company and is controlled by the state, which has an ownership stake of 53.9 per cent. Although the competition has changed somewhat in recent years, the remnants of the historic Televerket have a market share of 42 percent, the latest overview from National Communications Authority from the end of May this year.

Number two on the short list of mobile providers in Norway is Swedish-controlled Telia with a market share of 33.9 per cent, while Norwegian Ice has a share of 14.5 per cent.
