Customers of the operator Telenet have been experiencing numerous problems for several months in Flanders: “The telephone number recently requested for our adolescent son has not worked for four weeks. It will however be charged, of course”, “No TV for weeks, bad internet, generally unusable”, testify several users interviewed by Het Laatste Nieuws.
Most Telenet customers were happy with their operator until early 2023 when the problems started. Faced with Telenet’s immobility and the increase in its tariffs, more and more of them are lodging complaints with the mediation service for telecommunications. “The counter is around 2,500, three times more than the same period last year”, informs the mediator.
The operator is aware of the problem but does not know when it will be solved. An investigation has been launched by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications. State Secretary Alexia Bertrand and Minister Petra De Sutter are also working on the introduction of mandatory compensation in the event of a malfunction, which has already existed in the Netherlands since 2017.
