BSI does not find any security gaps in Xiaomi smartphones

After a warning from the cyber defense in Lithuania of Xiaomi smartphones, the responsible federal office put the devices from China under the microscope. The authority did not find any abnormalities.
The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has discovered neither security gaps nor indications of censorship functions in Xiaomi smartphones.
The authority announced this on Friday in Bonn and confirmed a corresponding report by Deutschlandfunk. The BSI had examined the devices from China for several months because the Lithuanian cyber defense had previously warned of security gaps and built-in censorship functions in Chinese cell phones. The Lithuanians had specifically referred to the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G model.
The BSI did not find any abnormalities during the investigation of “relevant devices”, said the BSI spokesman. No transfer of filter lists was found either. Therefore, no further research or other measures regarding the Xiaomi smartphones are required. The result of the investigations relates to Germany.
A spokesman for Xiaomi welcomed the BSI statement. The results of the research confirmed Xiaomi’s commitment to conducting business transparently and responsibly, with the privacy and safety of customers being the top priority. “It has proven that we comply with all EU and national data protection and security laws as well as all applicable EU standards for our products.”
