Poor workmanship in fiber networks has been the subject of criticism for years. Many customers complain of wild disconnections and other malfunctions when they decide to abandon their old ADSL to convert to this technology. The fault lies with indelicate technicians, who do not work according to the rules of the art, and who wreak havoc in the installations. This situation worries communities and the government. And for good reason, fiber networks will constitute the reference infrastructure for connecting to the Internet over the coming decades. Faced with this discontent, the French Telecoms Federation (FFT), the operators’ lobby, will take additional measures to its plan, announced a year ago, aimed at improving the quality of networks.
Malfunctions on fiber networks: the government and the regulator criticize the operators
At the end of last week, the FFT announced that the four major national operators (Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free) will ” measure [leurs] performance, at the scale of each network concerned » by defects. « They therefore proposed indicators reflecting customer perception and relating to their own industrial processes”she says.
Further punish acts of vandalism
In addition, the four operators will set up systems to share ” in real time “ information concerning interventions on the networks. The objective is to “streamline the industrial processes of operators and various stakeholders”et “to further increase their accountability”.
That said, the FFT also calls on the authorities to take the bull by the horns with regard to acts of vandalism which, according to it, will crescendo on the networks. « The sustainability of networks also depends on the worsening of criminal sanctions once morest acts of vandalism and deliberate damage that our digital infrastructures suffer on a daily basis., insists the federation. According to him, the operators’ fiber networks wipe out approximately “70 acts of vandalism per month”.
