Telecom service providers and smartphone manufacturers are said to be at odds over electronic SIM or e-SIM phones. According to an article in Economic Times (ET), while telecom operators want e-SIMs to be mandatory in phones, smartphone brands are once morest it. The fight was between the respective industry bodies, COAI and ICEA. Both industry associations sent letters to their respective departments. COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) represents telecommunications companies Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone. While the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) is the apex body of the mobile and electronics industry comprising of manufacturers, brand owners and technology providers.
