Tekken 8 for PS5 revealed during game state

During State of Play today, Bandai Namco kicked off the show with a first look at Tekken 8, the next installment of the long-running fighting game franchise.

The short trailer showed Jin Kazama facing his father Kazuya Mishima on a rainy cliff. Jin managed to transform into his demon form while flying, and he punched a massive punch following doing so. Severe storms raged behind the fighters during the battle, with hurricanes raging into the sea below.

a PlayStation Blog A post by Executive Producer Katsuhiro Harada of Tekken confirms that all of the visual elements that appear in the trailer — “character models, backgrounds, and effects” — are all in-game assets. The scene is taken from the game’s story mode, but the blog says that what is seen is similar to what players will experience in the middle of combat.

“Although this was captured from the story mode, it is not a pre-rolled movie for the trailer, but a real-time movie,” Harada wrote, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you’ll experience Game versus battle modes”.

The reveal follows a small tease shown during Evo 2022 in August, in which a single image of Kazuya’s face was shown alongside the words “Get ready” following the Tekken 7 Grand Finals.

Tekken 8 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam sometime in the future, as no specific release date or window has been revealed with the trailer. No other characters were revealed during the short trailer.
