Teichmann dominated in two sets by Martincova

Jil Teichmann (WTA 36) was eliminated in the first round of the WTA 500 tournament in Ostrava. The Seelandaise lost 7-6 (7/1) 7-6 (7/5) to Czech guest Tereza Martincova (WTA 78).

This defeat, her ninth in thirteen matches played since Roland-Garros where she had reached the round of 16, is infuriating. Jil Teichmann indeed seemed to have the game in hand following a perfect start. She was leading 5-1 in the first set, following winning the first four games at a run.

The left-hander – who even missed two first set balls at 5-2 on her serve – however did not give up in this part. Led 7-6 4-2, she won three consecutive games to completely revive her actions. But she once more flinched in the ‘money time’, erasing all the same three consecutive match points.

Bencic-Bouchard mardi

Seeded No. 6 in the table in Ostrava, Belinda Bencic (WTA 14) will play her first round on Tuesday evening. The St-Galloise will rub shoulders with the qualified Eugene Bouchard (WTA 506), ex-no. 5 in the world. She beat the 28-year-old Canadian in their previous two encounters.
