Felixander Solis-Guzman, a 16-year-old teenager, caused commotion and chaos following confronting a group of young people who were enjoying their spring break on New Smyrna Beach in Florida.
The event, which took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, led the authorities to intervene urgently following being alerted by screams from the crowd that indicated the presence of a weapon. “We heard the crowd yelling and someone exclaiming ‘He’s got a gun!’” officials with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said, according to reports from CBS News affiliate WKMG in Orlando.
The quick action of the sheriff’s deputies, who arrived at the scene armed and ready to control the situation, was recorded on a body camera video. “They observed a young offender pointing a gun at another person,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood told WKMG. Solis-Guzman, upon noticing the police presence, fled along the seashore without giving up his weapon, Chitwood added.

When he was cornered, the teenager went into the ocean where he discarded the weapon and a black bag before surrendering to the authorities. Both objects were recovered by agents, as confirmed by CNN.
The black bag contained 20 small plastic bags filled with marijuana. “What we have here is a petty criminal from Orange County, armed, who decides to come to our beach because he intended to sell drugs,” said Sheriff Chitwood. Despite the tense situation, delegates reported that no one was injured during the incident.
Following his arrest, Solis-Guzman faces multiple charges including illegal possession of a firearm, resisting authority, tampering with evidence and aggravated assault, among others.

Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, led by RJ Larizza, announced Friday that the teen would be prosecuted as an adult: “This teen brought drugs and a gun to Volusia Beach over spring break. He will now face adult charges and serious consequences for his reckless actions,” Larizza declared on the social network X.
Solis-Guzman was transported to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing before being taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Additionally, it was discovered that he had seven outstanding no-bail warrants in Orange County, including armed robbery and violation of probation.
During his first court appearance on Saturday, it was decided not to grant him bond and he was assigned a public defender, CBS News confirmed. To date, no additional information has been provided regarding how the young man obtained the gun or why he displayed it on the beach.
