Police have arrested a 13-year-old former student at a Murrieta high school who allegedly made threats against the school on Instagram, authorities said.
Officers learned around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, that an Instagram user made a threat against Warm Springs High School, Murrieta police said.
Police served a search warrant at the teen’s home and arrested the boy on suspicion of making the threats and seized four firearms from a relative’s bedroom.
Officials do not know whether the minor had access to the weapons, they said, but added that the process to get them back would involve a court order, meaning the teen would not have immediate access to the firearms if he is released from custody.
Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the school, but said they will be “very vigilant” during the upcoming school week and plan to have additional staff at Warm Springs and other schools as needed.
