A teenage girl was arrested for attempted murder following three people, two teachers and a student of the same age, were injured at a school in Wales, local police said.
Police were called late this morning to Amman Valley School in Ammanford, south Wales, where emergency services were dispatched before the school of 1,720 pupils was sealed off. The three victims, who suffered stab wounds, were taken to hospital, local police commander Ross Evans said in a statement.
“A teenage girl was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody,” he said, requesting the removal of images of the facts circulating on the internet.
He further indicated that an increased police presence would be seen in the coming days as the investigation continues.
“Schools should be a safe place”
Before their circumstances were publicly clarified, the facts provoked a number of political reactions.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was “shocked” and thanked the police and emergency services in a message on X (formerly Twitter).
Welsh Prime Minister Vaughan Gething (Labour) spoke of a “deeply worrying time for schools, families and local people”.
“Schools should be a safe place to learn and discover. It is deeply sad and upsetting that today teachers and pupils have seen this security shattered by a violent event,” responded the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies.
