TEDi for Top Euro Discount. Three uppercase letters followed by a lowercase letter. This is the name of the hard-discounter of German origin which will take its first steps in Belgium this weekend, in Tongeren, on 850 m² in the T-Forum retail park (20 km from Liège). Enough to present some 15,000 references at very low prices in the segments of decoration, kitchen utensils, DIY, toys, stationery, sweets…
If this opening is publicized it is that the retailer, which is sometimes nicknamed “the German Action” – it shares with the Dutch brand between 60 and 70% of the offer, the balance resembling that of a Big Bazaar or a Belgian Ava, plus exclusive items – in the long term, plans to align between 150 and 200 stores in our country. To see its expansion – in a little less than 20 years, the chain, created at the start of a single store, now has around 2,900 in 14 countries – one can imagine that it will achieve its ends. This is up to regarding twenty openings per year on average, and already four to five this year. The newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, which interviewed the regional director of TEDi for Belgium, mentions in particular two other inaugurations in Limburg, including one probably in Lanaken.
Looking for locations
TEDi is therefore looking for places to land: areas of around 1,000 m² (for 20,000 references) in high-activity “A” locations.
In the short term, Belgian stores will be supplied from Aachen (50 km away). In the future, they might be from Belgium, where a distribution center would be set up, or from France, where TEDi set up shop a few weeks ago.
