On Tuesday, the US Treasury placed sanctions on Teddy and Raymond Rahma, Lebanese individuals linked with corruption in Lebanon. The Treasury claimed the Rahma brothers used their wealth and influence to partake in corrupt practices which have damaged Lebanon’s democratic processes and contributed to the weakening of the rule of law. Furthermore, the Treasury stated that the pair have used their extensive commercial and political connections to enrich themselves unfairly, to the detriment of the Lebanese population. Today, Tuesday, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on the Lebanese, Teddy and Raymond Rahma, for their association with corruption in Lebanon.
And the US Treasury indicated in a statement that “Teddy Zina Rahma and Raymond Zina Rahma used their wealth, power, and influence to engage in corrupt practices that contribute to the collapse of the rule of law in Lebanon, and thus undermine democratic processes in Lebanon at the expense of the Lebanese people.”
The statement also added: “At a time when the Lebanese are facing great economic hardship, a severe energy crisis, and unprecedented political imbalance, the Brotherhood used the mercy of their commercial empire and their political connections to enrich themselves at the expense of their citizens.”
For his part, Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. “Now more than ever, the Lebanese government must implement much-needed economic and political reforms.”
