A few weeks ago, Tecno held a webinar with experts Counterpoint and Forbes, teasing its “push towards the flagship”. During the webinar, the company teased Launching its new flagship Dimensity 9000. Now, the company is removing the covers of the device, and in fact, we have two flagships instead of one! Tecno Phantom X2 and Tecno Phantom X2 Pro are definitely great entries in the flagship segment. Along with the advanced 4nm SoC, the Pro variant also brings its first retractable portrait camera.
Tecno Phantom X2 and Tecno Phantom X2 Pro specifications
Both flagships come with the excellent Dimensity 9000 SoC. This SoC hasn’t had much luck in terms of availability. But when it comes to performance, it’s everything you can expect from a flagship CPU. It brings Cortex-X2, A710 and A510 cores and a powerful Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. It’s a huge jump when compared to the original Phantom X. This is not the only advancement, as both devices also come standard with LPDDR5X RAM. The vanilla has 8GB of RAM, while the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has 12GB of RAM. Both phones have up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Tecno Phantom X2 and X3 Pro bring 6.8-inch AMOLED panels with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The devices have Gorilla Glass Victus, which is also an excellent thing. In terms of design, both devices have curved displays with a central punch-hole cutout. Both phones pack 5,160mAh batteries with 45W fast charging. It may not be as confusing as certain phones, but it’s more than what Samsung will offer with the Galaxy S23 series.
Top notch camera system
One of the main features of these phones is definitely the camera system. It’s the biggest way to differentiate the vanilla Tecno Phantom X2 Pro. First of all, the design of the cameras is something new. They have a huge island to set up the cameras, our usual square island that tends to sit in the upper left back. However, in these phones, the island has been moved to the center. The Pro model has a decorative ring around the retractable portrait lens.
How does a retractable selfie camera work? It has an f/1.5 aperture and lets more light reach the 50MP ISOCELL JN1 Camera. The shallow depth of field creates a natural bokeh effect, which helps users get a perfect portrait effect on their shots. The camera has a 65mm lens which means it can also be used as a telephoto lens for 2.5x zoom. For this reason, it is called a “retractable” lens. This keeps the phone slim. The mechanism extends the lens outward when it is in use and then retracts it. Tecno Phantom X2 Pro also has a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera that has autofocus and can act as a macro camera. The main camera also uses an RGBW sensor that captures 60% more light. It should be noted that it also has optical image stabilization.
The standard Tecno Phantom X2 has the same 12MP ultrawide/macro camera. The last sensor is a simple 2MP depth sensor, and the portrait lens is absent. Last but not least, both phones have 32MP punch-hole selfie cameras.
Pricing and availability
Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has an exclusive Mars Orange color that uses recycled plastic on the back. There is also Stardust Gray. Meanwhile, Vanilla gets Stardust Gray and Moonlight Silverway.

The Tecno Duo isn’t cheap, but then once more, these are full flagship phones. So, the technology used here comes at a price. We’d love to know how these phones perform, and how good the experience is on Tecno’s flagship range. However, the duo is available in Saudi Arabia. Tecno Phantom X2 Pro costs 2,700 SAR ($720 / €685 / INR 59,000). The Phantom X2 Pro is priced at 3,500 SAR ($930 / €885 / AU$76,700).
