Asuncion, IP Agency.- This Tuesday, the Regional Energy Integration Conference was held, a transcendental event for the Paraguayan electricity sector that was attended by Brazilian authorities, experts and businessmen from the area.
Representing Paraguay, the event was headed by the Vice Minister of Mines and Energy, Mauricio Bejarano, and the President of the National Electricity Administration, Félix Sosa.
“This is really a super-important event that marks a historic moment,” said Bejarano. “While it is a learning process for both countries, for Paraguay it is a first opportunity to sell energy to Brazil,” he added.
He also pointed out that “this is the first time Brazil is going to buy firm energy for its market”, which is why he believes that what is happening can make an economic difference for the future of our country.
He also said that this opens an opportunity for other energy sources outside of Itaipu to enter a market like the Brazilian one.
For Bejarano, the presence of Brazilian authorities, their experts and businessmen in the area, especially traders, “will nourish the work so that this integration becomes a reality with bilateral will.”
Finally, he stressed that this is “a historic milestone in regional energy integration”, which had already been contemplated in the National Energy Policy with a vision for 2040.
“This policy was recently updated, and it also proposes to make this energy integration a reality in a tangible way,” concluded the Vice Minister following the event that took place at the Sheraton Asunción Hotel.
