The Walloon public transport company TEC announced late Wednesday followingnoon the move to level 4 of its bad weather plan in all Walloon provinces due to snowfall and freezing rain which has been affecting Belgium since the morning. Only a few bus lines are still running in Namur while the Charleroi light metro is still running, said Stéphane Thiery, marketing director and spokesperson for the TEC.

After activating level 4 of the bad weather plan on Wednesday morning in the province of Luxembourg, the TEC decided to introduce this level 4 also in the province of Liège and then in the provinces of Hainaut, Walloon Brabant and Namur. This means that the safety of users and bus drivers can no longer be ensured, requiring the vehicles to be returned to depots. “Only a few buses are still running in Namur, but the situation is also complicated, and we are heading towards a return of vehicles to the depot in the region,” confirmed Stéphane Thiery. “In Hainaut, the Charleroi light metro is still running”.

It is not yet certain whether buses will be able to run once more this Thursday morning. “We will have to ensure the state of the primary and secondary roads, we will gauge this with the first teams tomorrow morning. All the teams are proactive, but given the situation, we are pessimistic regarding a rapid recovery,” added the door -speech of the TEC.

The Walloon company reminds that all its teams remain on deck and continue to inform travelers via the letec.be platform. “All travelers are asked to check whether or not their line is running on the site before waiting at their usual stop,” concluded Stéphane Thiery.
