Teatro Calavera exposes the history of humanity this afternoon at the Pazo da Cultura

Prepare for a Cosmic Comedy: ‘Jansel and Ponsel’ Debuts at Pazo da Cultura

If you thought you needed a star-studded cast to tackle the origins of the universe, think again! This Saturday night, Skull Theater is dropping a cosmic comedy bomb at the Pazo da Cultura in Narón, with a show aptly titled “Jansel and Ponsel.” Yes, two actors will go deeper than your average pub quiz about the cosmos, all while making you chortle like there’s no tomorrow. It’s a bit like trying to eat an elephant—if the elephant was made of gags and existential crises.

A Journey from Bang to Today

Written more than 20 years ago by local playwright Jose Prieto, this piece isn’t just old. It’s vintage! Like a fine wine, it’s aged to perfection—sort of. Imagine the Big Bang unfolding in front of you, but instead of sci-fi technology, you’ve got Alejandro Martín and Marian Rei channeling everything from cavemen to Jesus Christ. Yes, you heard right! It’s like The Big Bang Theory, but with real theories and way fewer awkward pauses.

According to Prieto, the goal of this theatrical showdown is to “tell, in a humorous way, the entire history of humanity, from the Big Bang to the present day.” You can almost picture the cosmic dust settling while two talented individuals embody characters straight out of a history book—or a really unconventional pub quiz. It’s the sort of ambition normally reserved for a Michael Bay film, but instead, you get to see it on stage without the CGI explosions. Although, let’s be honest, a few pyrotechnics wouldn’t hurt.

Theater Through a New Lens

Here’s the kicker: although the script is over two decades old, it’s being reinterpreted by the Teatro Calavera company, which means a fresh take on old material. As Prieto puts it, this will be a big surprise—like opening a present on your birthday only to find out it’s a book on quantum physics. “For me, it will also be a big surprise to see how they did it,” he says, doubtlessly preparing for a rollercoaster of laughter mixed with perplexity.

Characters Across Time

And how exactly are two people supposed to cover the entirety of human history? I mean, that sounds like a Netflix binge-worthy series! Alejandro and Marian are expected to embody an endless number of characters—from the primitive cave dwellers to the mighty Romans and even a cameo by Jesus himself. Let’s be real; if I had a pound for every time someone tried to encapsulate the history of humanity in under two hours, I could probably fund my own version of the show.

From Humble Beginnings to a Cosmic Rome

Interestingly, Martín and Rei are not rookies to this theatrical game. They’ve been at it long enough to know the ropes—and possibly some dance moves. They studied at the local theater school where Prieto began his journey back in ’89, which is more than just a sign of their veteran status. It’s proof that Narón has a rich theatrical history, right from the days when performances were held in a cinema. Nothing says high culture quite like popcorn and existential dread, right?

Why You Mustn’t Miss It

So, what’s the takeaway here? This Saturday at 8:00 p.m., prepare yourself for a high-energy, high-concept romp through the cosmos, delivered with a comedic flair that would make even the stars twinkle with laughter. Jansel and Ponsel is not just a performance; it’s a reminder that sometimes the universe is best understood with a side of humor. And who in their right mind would want to miss watching two talented actors tackle the complexities of human existence armed with nothing but wit and a shared stage?

Get your tickets or risk being the only one who didn’t hear the origin story and history of humanity presented in a way that’s a bit cheeky, totally hilarious, and undoubtedly intriguing. After all, laughter might just be the best way to explain the universe. Who knew?

The company Skull Theater presents this Saturday afternoon, at 8:00 p.m. at the Pazo da Cultura in Narón, “Jansel and Ponsel”a work that addresses the origin of the universe and human beings, through only two actors. The cast is made up of Alejandro Martín and Marian Reiwhich continue to give life to a text written more than 20 years ago by Jose Prieto, local playwright.

The author has been writing theater since 1992 and it was in 2001 when this piece premiered, with the Bucanero company, which took it to multiple parts of Galicia and even the national territory. Its objective was “tell, in a humorous way, the entire history of humanity, from the Big Bang to the present day”said Jose Prieto.

However, it is a text designed with a perspective from 23 years ago and that will be interpreted from the new point of view of the Teatro Calavera company, so “For me, it will also be a big surprise to see how they did it”said the creator, who will be one of the spectators of this function. Only one actor and one actress will deal with a topic of immense dimensions, which covers disparate moments of evolution such as life in caves or the origin of religions.

Thus, Alejandro Martín and Marian Rei will embody “an endless number of characters, from the early days until now,” said Jose Prieto, with identities as varied as the ancient Romans or Jesus Christ himself.
These two professionals are already old acquaintances of the author, who started at the Narón theater school in 1989 “when the Pazo did not yet exist, not even the municipal auditorium, and it was in the Urimare cinema where the performances were held,” he recalled.
