The sequel to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” did not disappoint with its success, and carries a prolific year of video games.

It was one of the most anticipated video games of the year. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, sequel to the now cult Breath of the Wild, has exceeded one million copies sold in France since its release in May 2023, reveals this Tuesday October 31 Le Figaro. Figures which must, in addition, be revised upwards, since they only concern physical copies of the title.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can therefore boast an undeniable success, with just over 20 million copies sold worldwide, including 10 within three days of publication. A record which largely dominates the previous title.

Released in 2017, its predecessor sold just over 6 million copies worldwide in the year following its release. Since then, Breath of the Wild has sold just over 30 million copies, figures which are stagnating while awaiting a possible port to the Japanese manufacturer’s next console.

Prolific year

The figures are part of a prolific year for the video game sector, marked by the release of major licenses, such as the latest Super Marios Bros. Wonder offered by Nintendo, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage from the publisher Ubisoft, Diablo IV or even the second opus of Marvel’s Spider-Man, of which 2.5 million copies were sold in the 24 hours following the release, a record for a Playstation Studios game.

And the major players can look forward to good momentum: a few days ago, Sony officially announced that it had full stocks of its Playstation 5 to sell for the holidays, and anticipated “record sales” for this period.
