“Tears flowed both from pain and from attitude” – a story from the Vidzeme hospital

“At 3 a.m. on March 31, I started vomiting at home, by 7 a.m. my stomach was numb, and for the first time I felt abdominal pain (burning, bloating).

I thought that I should go to the reception room of the Vidzeme hospital, you never know if something serious happened. At 8:00 I was already at the reception, they took blood, felt my stomach, introduced the system and painkillers. Everything is fine, the final conclusion is acute gastritis. She went home joyfully.

At 13:00 the pain started once more, I did everything as indicated in the prescription – I took the prescribed medicine.

The pain did not subside and intensified not only in the abdominal area, but also on the right side, and began to pull on the lower part.

At 21:00 it was decided to call an ambulance, many thanks to the Mazsalaca team, whose doctors arrived immediately, examined the abdominal cavity and decided to take him to the hospital, since it was probably appendicitis. And so it was. I arrived at the hospital around 22:00 and then the most unpleasant thing began…

A nurse or a nurse’s assistant or a physician’s assistant came up to the waiting counter, I have no idea, but the attitude was below zero. A sea of questions…Why did you come once more? In the morning they examined everything. Medicines don’t work as quickly. I didn’t buy a single medicine. How do you know that the appendix is to blame?

I asked if it was possible to look at the ultrasound and see if everything was okay, to this question they answered that the specialist would only be there on Tuesday, he would be able to look and make a conclusion regarding the ultrasound.

To be honest, I felt very broken and emotionally drained. I didn’t even have anything to answer. There was only an answer to this woman – write a document that you will take responsibility if something bad happens to me, and I will even go home. Tears flowed naturally, both from pain and from inaction.

Then they agreed to start all over once more – take blood tests. While I was waiting for an answer, surgeon Anna Denova came to me (the best thing that might happen that evening), examined me, felt my stomach, looked at the ultrasound and realized that it was the appendix.

We waited for the results of the blood tests, and I was immediately sent for surgery.

That assistant, who was in the emergency department at that moment, was not ashamed to loudly declare that I was faking all this, that the doctors in the ambulance made the wrong diagnosis, that my mother, who is the smartest veterinarian and understands what is happening , I also thought wrong. Who pretends during the holidays just to end up in the hospital? Show me at least one such person.

Unfortunately, it was you ladies who misdiagnosed me. Who took responsibility if I had not insisted on another blood test, an ultrasound. Who? This once more would be attributed to communication problems…

After this experience, I believe that the weakest point of Vidzeme Hospital is the emergency department.

I would like to thank the nurses of the surgical department (the service is at the highest level, even following 24 hours of work), thanks to the surgeon Anna Denova and her anesthesiologist. Everything is fine both before and following the operation. The exchange of information, the attitude is such that I take my hat off – THANK YOU!” the woman said.
