DEL, Final: Modus
The pre-playoffs were still in “best of three” mode. There, the teams in places seven to ten were able to secure a place in the quarter-finals – two wins were needed.
From the quarter-finals onwards, the “Best of Seven” mode continues – a team now needs four wins to advance.
The pairings and home rights in the first game were determined based on the teams’ respective placements following the main round.
Playoffs have been taking place in German ice hockey since 1981 – the finals are also played in this mode.
