MUMBAI: The yo-yo test, which tests players’ physical fitness, is once once more the benchmark for Indian cricket team selection. BCCI’s high-level meeting has decided to make the Yo-Yo test mandatory in the selection of the Indian team including the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Players returning to the team following injury must also undergo a DEXA (Bone Scan Test) test. The meeting also decided that henceforth only the young players who have proved their wealth of experience in domestic tournaments will be considered for the national team selection.
The yo-yo fitness test was earlier a part of the Indian team selection but was later omitted. At present, the Yo Yo test is conducted only to prove the physical fitness of the injured players. The yo-yo test is a scientific method of measuring athleticism. The method of the test is to run 20 meters back and forth, rest for only seconds and repeat the run once more.
