Teachers denounced “unworthy conditions” of the school in Recoleta, which faces the third week of unemployment

Problems in bathrooms, classrooms and even insect pests are part of the “unworthy conditions” denounced by the educational community of Colegio San Juan Diego de Recoletaand that have caused a stoppage of classes that will begin its third week.

The subsidized private establishment, in charge of the Mano Amiga Foundation, presents a series of failures in its facilities that prevent the normal development of school days, according to the College of Teachers of the Metropolitan Region.

Among the main drawbacks are the poor bathroom conditions, not having the required water pressure, blackboards with poor facilities regarding to fall, out of square chairs at risk of falling an insect plague and a open-air casino with a raschel mesh roof.

The educational community, made up of students, parents and teachers, accuse that since face-to-face classes began last March, they made the Directorate see the conditions in which the establishment was found. Faced with this situation, the students between seventh grade and fourth grade – regarding 700 students – decided to go on strike, which will face its third week on Monday, still without solutions.

The president of the Metropolitan Association of Teachers and Professors, mario aguilarsupported the stoppage, assuring that the demands are completely fair.

For her part, the teacher of the School Council Carolina Lillo explained that the teaching staff, at the beginning of March, presented a request to the Directorate of the establishment “because, at first glance, it was noticeable that in the two years of pandemic the school was totally abandonedwithout any maintenance, but they didn’t listen to us”.

The teacher affirmed that they have resorted to other instances, such as the Municipality of Recoleta and the Superintendency of Education, but that so far they have not had any response or less solution.
