Thousands of teachers from all over the country mobilized this Monday in a day of national strike called by the unions that make up the General Confederation of Labor (CGT). The measure is carried out in rejection of the lack of salary proposals by the Government of President Javier Milei, and in protest once morest the elimination of the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID) and the Salary Compensation Fund, as well as the cuts in infrastructure, pedagogical programs, financing and resources to the provinces.
“Hundreds of thousands of teachers are below the poverty line”the unions highlighted in a statement, in which they added that “They will not be able to pay for household services, transportation to work or food to live”.
They also urged the Government “to see this union measure as a massive teaching request, rooted in the nutritional nature of the salary”and the circumstances of “a desperate and abrasive inflation of the family economy.”
The strike coincides with the start of the school calendar in six jurisdictions and, according to the local press, one day before a salary meeting between union representatives, national and provincial authorities.
“We are just starting a fight plan, which if the national government does not reflect, will be extended with different measures throughout the country”Sergio Romero, head of the Union of Argentine Teachers (UDA) and secretary of educational policies of the CGT, said last week.
On the other hand, this weekend, the State Workers Association (ATE) also called a national strike whose date has not yet been set once morest the latest economic and social measures announced by President Javier Milei last Friday, during his speech in The congress.
