If you have already purchased herbal teas and other products from the Trex range, this announcement from the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) concerns you.
In a press release (Source 1), the agency indicates that it has been informed by pharmacovigilance centers, poison control and toxicovigilance centers of “numerous adverse effects in regarding twenty people who consumed Trex Tea (powder), Trex Caps (capsules), Trex Plus (effervescent form), presented as natural “detox” products promoting weight loss”.
Stating that other European countries are reporting similar alerts, the ANSM has therefore undertaken to take a “health policy” decisionby suspending the marketing of these products.
Two drugs with serious adverse effects
Analyzes have revealed the presence, in these herbal teas and other “detox” products of the brand, of two medicinal substances, sibutramine and sildenafil. The first was marketed in France between 2001 and 2010 under the name of Sibutral, as a treatment once morest obesity, and withdrawn from sale due to serious adverse cardiovascular effects, while sildenafil is the active ingredient of the famous Viagra , and therefore indicated in case of erectile disorders. It also has its share of undesirable effects (headaches, digestive disorders, dizziness, nausea, visual disturbances, etc.), especially if it is incorrectly dosed.
Pharmacovigilance and toxicovigilance centers have reported the occurrence of heart problems (heart rhythm disorders, hypertension, palpitations, chest pain), sleep disturbances, nausea, dizziness or epileptic seizures in people who have consumed Trex brand products.
The public health agency is therefore asking people who have purchased products from the Trex line (Trex Tea, Trex Caps, Trex Plus) not to use them anymore. In the event of an adverse effect felt following the consumption of such a product, the ANSM recommends consult a doctor and reporton the portal for reporting adverse health events. And of course, in an emergency, consult 15 or a poison control centre.
