TCS Opens State-of-the-Art Research Center at IIT Kharagpur
In a major boost to India’s research and innovation ecosystem, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has inaugurated a cutting-edge research center at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP). This collaborative venture aims to accelerate groundbreaking advancements in digital health, robotics, and intelligent systems by leveraging the power of edge computing, embedded systems, and Artificial Intelligence.
Harnessing the Power of Collaboration
Located in IIT KGP’s Research Park in Kolkata, the TCS Research Center is a testament to the growing partnership between academia and industry. Over 150 TCS scientists will inhabit this state-of-the-art facility, which houses three specialized laboratories: Sensing and Communications, Edge Computing and Analytics, and Robotics and Visual Computing.
“TCS is transforming how industry traditionally engages with elite research institutions,” said Dr. Harrick Vin, Chief Technology Officer, TCS. “We’re actively co-locating our research and innovation labs within academic settings to facilitate a more efficient exchange of knowledge and talent. This center at IIT KGP marks a significant step in this strategic journey.”
The collaboration is mutually beneficial. Professor Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, emphasized the center’s importance: “This partnership signifies a leap forward in harnessing cutting-edge technologies to address pressing challenges in healthcare and automation. Combining IIT Kharagpur’s world-class research capabilities with TCS’s industry expertise, we aim to drive transformative innovations that enhance quality of life, improve healthcare delivery, and contribute significantly to the field of intelligent systems.”
Driving Innovation through Cutting-Edge Technology
Researchers at the center will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, enabling them to accelerate innovations in fields like edge computing, embedded systems, and AI. The TCS Research Center at IIT KGP will also house a Customer Experience Center, providing TCS clients across diverse industries – including mining, agriculture, mobility, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail – with exclusive access to TCS’ latest research concepts and technological advancements.
Workshops held at the center will be open to external participation, fostering collaborations between TCS scientists, industry experts, and IIT KGP faculty. This collaborative approach aims to find innovative solutions to real-world industry challenges and empower the next generation of technologists and researchers to shape the future.
“This center will not only foster groundbreaking research but also create opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, empowering the next generation of technologists and researchers to shape the future,” Professor Tewari added.
This pioneering initiative sets a new standard for collaboration between academia and industry, promising significant advancements in significant technological fields and paving the way for a brighter, more innovative future.
