TCL continues to invest in the national market and has brought several new features now in the second half of 2023. One of them is the 40 SE, which comes as a bet for the entry-level segment and features a large screen and lots of memory as a highlight.
TCL’s basic cell phone is large and not only because of its above-average screen, but also because it has wide edges, especially the bottom, which contribute to the device’s exaggerated measurements. The body is entirely made of plastic with a matte finish to help with grip and make the 40 SE less slippery.
The multimedia part of the TCL 40 SE is made up of a 6.75-inch screen with HD+ resolution and an IPS LCD panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate. It could have stronger brightness for better visibility outside the home. The sound part compensates with stereo audio and power that is average and we have good bass and treble, with only the mids. The sound does not distort when the volume is at maximum.
The hardware is made up of a MediaTek Helio G37 chip with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, which is the highlight for the segment. Despite not being the fastest, it can even keep many apps open at the same time. In games you will have to settle for more demanding titles running on low or medium.
The 5,010 mAh battery yielded 23 hours in our moderate use test and the 18W charger takes almost two hours to fully fill the battery. The simple photography set only does the basics and records decent photos in favorable situations. The camcorder records in Full HD and is lacking in stabilization and sound capture, which is mono and muffled.
